A. A seven-sided storm
B. A decagon-shaped atmospheric wave
C. A circular cloud system
D. A triangular jet stream
In September 2026, the Hubble Space Telescope detected a large, evolving 10-sided atmospheric wave around Saturn’s south pole. Scientists described it as a decagon, making it particularly interesting because Saturn is already famous for its unusual six-sided atmospheric pattern at its north pole.
The newly observed southern feature is not simply a copy of Saturn’s famous northern hexagon. Scientists are studying how these large atmospheric patterns form and change, providing another example of the complex weather systems found on gas giant planets.
