The James Webb Space Telescope studied the Jupiter-sized exoplanet WD 1856 b in 2026 and detected evidence about its atmosphere. The planet orbits a white dwarf, which is the dense remnant left after a star similar to the Sun reaches the end of its life.
The observation is especially interesting because WD 1856 b survived the dramatic transformation of its parent star. Scientists can use its atmosphere, temperature, and orbit to learn more about how planets survive stellar evolution.
