Eligibility Criteria for PM Chromebook Scheme Announced

Federal Government announced the Eligibility Criteria for PM Chromebook Scheme. I learned that the government plans to distribute 500,000 refurbished Chromebooks to top-performing Grade 9 students across Pakistan under the Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme.

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and the Prime Minister’s Youth Program are managing this scheme. The TT Care Foundation has agreed to provide the devices under a formal agreement.

To qualify, students must score at least 50% in their latest SSC-I examinations. The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) will verify their results. Selection will be based on merit within each province or region, examination board and academic stream.

Students from public schools, private schools supported by provincial education foundations and registered madaris can apply.

Punjab will receive 181,090 Chromebooks, the highest allocation. Sindh will get 85,925, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 51,170 and Balochistan 31,815. Islamabad has been allocated 100,000 devices. Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will each receive 25,000.

Under the distribution plan, 80% of the allocated devices will go to school students and 20% to madaris students. School students will receive devices according to their academic streams. Science students will get 70% of the school allocation, while arts students will receive 30%.

Before distributing the Chromebooks, authorities will verify students’ results, enrollment and school affiliation. The devices will then be delivered by courier. A monitoring system will track deliveries, while grievance committees will handle complaints about selection, verification and missing deliveries.
