A. Flooding forests
B. Prescribed burning
C. Removing all vegetation
D. Increasing forest density
A NASA-funded study reported in July 2026 found that giant sequoias were nearly four times more likely to survive extreme wildfires in forests managed with prescribed burns.
Prescribed burning involves deliberately setting carefully controlled fires under suitable conditions. These fires can reduce the amount of vegetation and other combustible material available to fuel severe wildfires.
